In the last week, we came across a report suggesting that the Xiaomi Mi A1 could be the company’s first Android One smartphone. The device was spotted on the Indonesian certification website POSTEL revealing that it could be a Xiaomi Mi 5X sans the MIUI skin.
Now, the latest information revealed on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo spotted by The Android Soul is that the Xiaomi Mi A1 might arrive with a full-screen display. Given that the Mi A1 will be based on the Mi 5X, we can expect the Android One smartphone to boast of a 5.5-inch FHD display, which is almost bezel-less.
Apart from the display and the bezel-less design, the upcoming Xiaomi Android One smartphone that is in the pipeline is believed to make use of an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC as well. The imaging aspects will include a dual rear camera setup as in the Mi 5X and stock Android out of the box instead of MIUI 9. The Xiaomi Mi 5X is all set to be launched in India on September 5.
In the POSTEL certification, the Xiaomi Mi A1 was spotted featuring the model number MDG2. The RF certification page of the device also confirmed the same model number tipping that it is the Android One smartphone that is in the making.
Android One is the attempt made by Google back in 2014 with a handful of smartphones in order to bring the stock Android experience to the budget phones. The Android One platform assured speedy software update to such smartphones. Though we have a sort of confirmation that the Xiaomi Mi A1 will be an Android One smartphone, there is no assurance that it will be unveiled with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. We can expect further reports to reveal more details regarding the availability and specifications of the alleged Xiaomi Mi A1.
