Video gaming on Watseka agenda – Newsbug.info

Tuesday the Watseka City Council will consider a video gaming license for a new business.

The Tuesday council agenda includes a video gaming license for Slick’s, a new establishment opening in the old Bull’s BBQ building at the west junction of U.S. 24 and Illinois 1.

The issue was defeated in the finance committee last week by a vote of 4-3. Mayor Bob Harwood, aldermen Rick Elliott, Mike Marcier and Mark Garfield voted against the matter, with aldermen Dennis Cahoe, Marvin Purvis and Monna Ulfers voting in favor. Aldermen John Allhands and Charles DeWitt were absent.

Harwood said at the time that he is concerned that there are too many establishments with video gaming now, noting that he has no problem with Slick’s owner Dan McCullough, who also owns Shorty’s, which has video gaming.

However, Harwood also said at that meeting that the issue could come up again at council this week.

On Friday, the Times-Republic asked Harwood about video gaming receipts the city received.

He said from May 1, 2015, to April 30, 2016, the city received $46,786 in video gaming receipts.
