Netflix has taken steps towards blocking millions of Android devices from using the streaming service.

Instagram went down so everyone started using Twitter again

The app’s latest update makes it impossible for devices that have been unlocked to use Netflix, according to androidpolice.

In a statement, Netflix said that devices that are ‘not Google-certified or have been altered’ will no longer work – in fact, users won’t even see Netflix in the Google Play Store.

However, people with unlocked devices have reportedly been able to continue using Netflix despite updating to version 5.0.

It is believed the app could stop working on certain Android devices in the future.

According to AndroidHeadlines, more than 25 per cent of Android users unlock their phones – meaning millions of people could be affected.

The app is reportedly still working but showing a message reading ‘incompatible with your device’ in the Play Store.

A description of Version 5.0 states that the update ‘only works with devices that are certified by Google and meet all Android requirements’.
