The 2017 college football season had its soft launch last week, with a smattering of relatively unimportant games taking place during “Week 0”. Things won’t truly heat up until Thursday, when Week 1 begins in earnest. National championship contender Ohio State is the team to watch that night, as the Buckeyes are slated to take the field in an early Big Ten battle against Indiana. The action will continue non-stop throughout the weekend, highlighted by a pair of Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Games.

This yearly tradition, which is now being hosted at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, helps break up the monotony of big conference squads beating up on FCS opponents during season-opening tuneup games. The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic will be no different this year, as three of the teams are ranked on the first AP Top-25 poll. One of the matchups, No. 25 Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech, has all the fixings of a great game, but it’s the other portion of this double-header—Alabama vs. Florida State—that will be the main course in Week 1.

This much-anticipated showdown between the No. 1 Crimson Tide and No. 3 Seminoles will set the tone for the 2017 campaign. The outcome is almost certain to have College Football Playoff implications, making it a can’t-miss event for all collegiate football enthusiasts.

Even if you aren’t a fan of either team, there is always the option of putting a wager down. That will have you cheering like an alumnus for the Tide to roll or the ‘Noles to pull off the upset. If you aren’t sure which way to lean on this epic season-opener, don’t fret. Jon Price of SportsInformationTraders.com, a pro Las Vegas handicapper, has had it circled on his calendar for months and provided his pick for a winner. Before getting to a comprehensive Alabama vs. Florida State breakdown, let’s take a look at the Week 1 college football schedule, plus viewing information and updated odds for each contest.
